…As INEC moves to link registration nationwide
In a move to streamline citizen identification, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have agreed to deepen collaboration, allowing Nigerians to register for their National Identification Number (NIN) and voter cards at the same time in designated centres.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said the initiative could, in the long run, make the NIMC database the single source of truth for citizenship identification and potentially allow citizens to vote from anywhere in the country.
The collaboration will see NIMC officials deployed to select INEC registration centres nationwide, following a successful pilot in Anambra State in 2022.
